چکیده

Catatonic stupor is a condition characterized by generalised inhibition of motor activities where sensibilities are impaired and the individual has little or no appreciation of his surroundings. Fisher (1954) reported eight cases of carotid occlusion who presented initially as dementia. He concluded that the association of dementia and carotid occlusion in these cases may be entirely fortuitous, and care must be exercised in drawing conclusions. It is to be recalled that in several instances occlusion or severe stenosis was found without any sign of mental deterioration. Only further regular examination of the carotid system in cases with and without dementia will allow a final judgement in this matter. Hurwitz et al. (1959) has also reported the same type of cases but he considered the impai • red mentation as a prodromal symptom of internal carotid artery occlusion. Recently we came across one Mich patient who presented with features of catatonic stupor and after investigations she turned out to be a case of internal carotid artery occlusion.

Carotid artery thrombosis and cerebral infarction after multiple traumas

Carotid artery thrombosis and concomitant brain infarction after blunt trauma are rare conditions. We report a 34-year-old woman with multiple traumas due to pedestrian car accident. At the time of initial visiting, she was somnolent and her Glasgow coma scale (GCS) score was 14. Initial vital signs (V/S) and brain computed tomography (CT) scan were normal. One day after admission to the emerge...

Hypopituitarism and amenorrhea-galactorrhea syndrome caused by thrombosis of both internal carotid artery and giant intrasellar aneurysm: case report.

Giant intra and parasellar aneurysm with a spontaneous thrombosis of internal carotid artery is rare. We report the case of a 34 years old woman presenting a unique giant sellar and parasellar aneurysm associated with hypopituitarism and amenorrhea-galactorrhea syndrome. Computed tomographic scans and magnetic resonance images were suggestive of a sellar tumor with a cystic component. Digital c...

Brainstem infarction in a patient with internal carotid dissection and persistent trigeminal artery: a case report

BACKGROUND The primitive trigeminal artery (PTA) is the most commonly described fetal anastomosis between the carotid and vertebrobasilar circulations. CASE PRESENTATION We report a 42-year-old patient presenting with internal carotid dissection, and imaging features of brainstem infarction. CONCLUSION Based on the imaging studies we presume occlusive carotid dissection with extensive throm...

Impairment of the cortical GABAergic inhibitory system in catatonic stupor: a case report with neuroimaging.

We report the case of a 32-year-old patient who presented with catatonic stupor during the course of acute aseptic encephalitis involving the right frontotemporal area. Flumazenil-PET performed during the stupor indicated decreased benzodiazepine receptor binding in the right frontotemporal area where glucose metabolism was preserved as revealed by FDG-PET. An injection of diazepam immediately ...
